Student Digi Pack Analysis

Student DigiPack Analysis

                        Group 28

The theme that seems to run throughout group 28's music video is the greenery setting and her guitar. The video was shot during autumn and I know this because of the dead leaves that have fallen from the tree's surrounding the main artist. This can is also part of the theme for this video and can be used in the digi pack.
The costume and makeup stands out from the setting as she is mainly dressed in pink and white plus she has bright red lipstick on.

The group went along well with the codes and conventions. They have a lot of 'do's' and not many 'dont's'. They have used the same theme on the digi pack that they have used in the video. The greenery still remains and the same type clothing does also.

They have used the same font type and sizes for each text apart from the artist name and this is how it should be. They have placed a close up of the artists face on the front cover to introduce her to the audience as she is a new comer to the industry. They have used two different colours, black and white for the text and I believe this goes well with the theme as well as standing out in the cover.
They have placed a barcode on the back of the cover along with the copyright information.

The advertisement is simple but powerful and very clear. Her name is displayed clearly along with the name of the album. They have placed a small image of the actual album cover clearly stating that it is 'OUT NOW!'. They have a few links to lead the fans on to her official pages which is quite useful.

Looking at the criteria

Once we were close to finishing our editing of our music video, I decided to look back at the criteria to see if our video was up to par with the mark scheme. A teacher went through the mark scheme with me, describing the requirements I need to meet in order to achieve the highest grade. I believe we have met all the requirements but we have mainly shown a wide range of camera shots, from close-ups, mid-shots, long-shots and a few unique camera shots.

Relating the website to audience

Reshooting!

We were able to successfully reshoot some of our footage. We decided to do this due to the feedback from our rough cut and that we personally thought that the shots that we had wouldn't work. We filmed the first chorus and the first
section of the second chorus with the artist wearing
white and the second section of the second chorus
with the artist wearing all black. We also made
sure that all of our shots were filmed in day light. Having
this footage will allow us to create the meaning we
want when editing. In the  editing process
we made sure we stuck to the idea with the costume
changes and that by the end of the music
video the artist will be wearing all black.

Reshooting on Monday 1st December

On Monday the 24th of November the class analysed and assessed our rough cut. Some of the talking points were mainly the strengths of our music video and what can be improved to make our music video even better.  One of the main talking points of our music video was the good narrative, variety of shots and fine editing. One of the main talking points about our improvements was the idea that the cross cutting from light to dark was unnecessary. This cross cutting to place with Bobby and Brix at west silver town and suicide bridge archway. Was it meant to be like that? was it an initial idea?  Therefore as a group we made a decision as a group to reshoot at Suicide Bridge Archway. To shoot in the daytime. This meant we would have followed our storyboard correctly which is excellent

On Monday the 1st of December we went to Archway to film at Suicide bridge. Fortunately it was a dry day however a bit cold. We managed to shoot in the daylight and get a rage of shots to go with it. Overall it was a successful shoot and the last shot we will be doing as the deadline is on the 5th December

Artist Website

I have created a website for our artists Bobby & Brix.

Since the artists of the song we are doing does not have a website and they only have a website for their clothing line, I got my inspiration from an artist within a similar genre (British hip hop and UK rap), Wretch 32.

Rough Cut Feedback

Summary:

  • The first part of the song needs to be lip synced
  • Cuts between different shots need to be more smooth
  • Joshua's wearing all black in the second chorus, before the climax, where the camera goes up to the sky and back down
  • It cuts between the day and the night time, and it does not make sense
  • In the second verse, the camera moves behind the wall and comes back to the same artist, and it would be better if it moves to another artist or location, instead of coming straight back to emmanuel
What needs to be done and when:
  • We need to either film the base tracks in West Silver town in the dark or the chorus in the daylight. This is so the filming is continuously in in the daylight, or all of she shots are in the dark, after the climax (transition from white clothes to black clothes)
  • We need to add our slow motion parts, as they were not slowed down in time to meet the rough cut deadline
  • When: We will film it again sometime this week (24th - 28th of November 2014)

Changing Blog Layout

As a group we all decided that we wanted the synergy colours of Bobby X Brix to be black and white. We decided to do this to represent the song in which we used to make our video which is called the other side. We took Andrew Goodwin's theory in to account in order to allow the audience develop different types of meanings through the songs lyrics and the song name. One of the meanings which was made obvious through the song name (The Other Side) was life after death. With developed thinking we came up with the colours white and black which symbolises heaven and hell. White representing heaven and black representing hell.

Therefore in order to compliment this theme, we made our main colours for synergy black and white
for that reason I decided keep the synergy pattern flowing through the blogs which is the colour black and white, and make the blog layout and background to also play a part in synergy.

Before our blog was not really representing our synergetic colours. The colours were blue and white. Therefore I decided to change it to black grey and white with a picture of Bobby X Brix

In order to change the setting I had to go to the top right hand bar to 'new layout'
in this layout, I change the background to black.

On this setting, I could change the colour of the text of the side bar to white.

Reshooting the ending

Whilst we were editing  we realised that by the end of the song we are going back and forth between the base tracks/performing shots that were shot during the day and one of the artists singing the chorus which is recorded at night time. We decided that we might have to reshoot the chorus so that its during the day as those shots may not work together unless there is a really good meaning to it. It also wouldn't make sense for some of the shots to be at night time as our song doesn't have the structure, from morning to night/taking us on a journey throughout the day.

Editing

Editing so far
So far in the editing process we lip synced the first and second verse. Our song includes 3 artists and 2 of them have their own verse and one artist sings the chorus, therefore we had to edit a lot of footage because apart from the performing scenes each artist also has their own individual shots in a specific location. We then began to cut in between the tracks on the beat, this was hard to do because you have to make sure that the transactions are fluent and that the shots don't go on for too long.

Reflection

Reflection- Update

Above is a screenshot of our new footage within Final Cut Pro, it is Brix's psychiatrist scene. The lighting which was an issue with our previous recorded footage has been successfully resolved, with crisper lighting which produces a better viewing quality. We are happy with result and hope a situation similar to this does not arise in the future, with better planning.

Taking a screenshot in the process of stacking the collection of various camera shots to then sync the clips with the original soundtrack. Later that day we finished editing Brix's psychiatrist scene, however when we submit our rough cut we are likely to make some improvements, as we have slow motion to include.
