Final Costume decisions

COSTUME

 We decided to stick to our original idea that Bobby and Brix would wear all black and Joshua would wear a white t-shirt and also that all of them would wear all black.






The psychiatrist is wearing a white shirt with a black blazer and a black skirt, she is also wearing glasses and has a notepad to make it more realistic.
We filmed Joshuas chorus twice, once wearing a black jumper and once wearing a white t-shirt to go with what we originally decided to do.








Brix in his verse where he is with the psychiatrist is dressed casually, wearing a grey jumper, jeans and a hat.

Pitch Feedback

We had a few areas to improve on after we presented our pitch:


  • The setting and location pitch need photographic evidence of where we were going to be filming.




  • The theory pitch needed changing. The example that was given for our music video being a mixture of illustration and amplification, was incorrect. It is now changed and the area of changed has been circled in red.





  • Also, the photos of our actual storyboard needs to be added to the blog.

Pitch - Post Production

We need to execute the shoot well in order to have a smooth and successful post production stage.
Our two main "effects" we are adding to our music video is the slow-mo movement with the lips of our artists in sync and a change of clothes at the same location with the same looking shot.
What I mean by this is, at a certain point in the track, we'll pan up to the sky revealing the clouds (heaven), and pan back down with all three characters dressed in all black (death).



This video by 'Political Peak - Lean' directed by Javier Alejandro does a lot of the effect that we are going for even though this video is a bit of a stretch because they have certain transitions that is out of our budget. 

Slow Motion Mouth In Sync:
To get the slow motion but mouth in sync effect, we have to film in 50fps and with the track speeded up by double. We then need to slow down the clips in 'cinema tools'.

Narrative:
We will film the narrative three times. One with Konan's point of view being chased by some people. he will run in the house and we will get him shutting the door from behind. He will run around the house until he finds his dad dead.

Second will be a third person shot of Konan being chased. For the third person shot, we will be adding in a bad film effect which will be cutting out the characters. This section we will need to film twice. One with the actors and one without. The camera will need to track in the same direction with the same view. I will play around with this in fcp to make actors disappear and re-appear. The dad at the end will also disappear towards the end. This will be like the gates to the other side. It will show the disappearance of a person and how quick they can go.

The third time will be shot with no actors. The camera will be tracking through the house in slow motion. The door will open up by itself as if its been kicked open and we will be tracking through the house with a dark atmosphere to give the image that all is lost. We will track upstairs to a door covered in blood with the dad lying down behind the door with his arm visible.

Original Digipak from Krept and Konan 

After viewing the original digipak shown above, there is a clear focus on conveying the image of the artists being Kings by displaying a picture of a gold thrown and gold crown. It is a straight forward design and gives a small hint of what the theme of the album will be - most likely living a luxury lifestyle of a King. Although we will not be choosing a similar design, as the message from our song does not connote a rich and luxury lifestyle instead signifying  death and life hence the black and white theme.

I have learnt that the target audience prefer raw and powerful stories incorporated into the music video that adds deeper meaning to the lyrics.

We have decided to go with a black and white theme for our package,across the: promotional video, digipak, and advertisement. The black and white colour scheme represents death and life linking with the message in our song choice 'Other Side', our artists will be colour coded wearing an all white ensemble as well as an all black ensemble. We strongly believe our audience will be able to recognize each stage of our packaging through our death and life theme.

Digipak of final song choice

I have collected photo's from Krept and Konan's website, which is initially a clothes store for their fans. However their style of mechanise provides a valuable insight into what clothes appeal to our specific audience. This is very important information because we can incorporate the styled clothing into our music video and possibly our digipak.

Skills Audit


Synergy - Brand Identity across Media Products

As well as making music videos to connect to songs, artist also tend to create many different media products to help build/maintain their brand identity. Other types of media include things like, a digipak, magazine covers or a poster promoting a song. The branding decisions in these media products are made before the music video, so that conventions planned can be put in to the music video. Some conventions that may be put it all the types of media, are things such as, costumes, props, location, appearance, colour schemes and graphics. This allow the audience to notice and easily recognise  features of artists and the synergy in all products promoted the artist's album.

One feature that is repeated throughout the media products is this the colour style. The colours that are used in majority of the music video, the advert and the album cover, are black, white and red, The red that is edited in is obvious effects and would allow the viewer to quickly recognise it if they saw it anywhere else.




The dark/black background is repeated in the other media products. The darkness becomes familiar the the audience and it can easily be related to Chris Brown's X album.








The two main outfits that Chris Brown wears in the video is a loose all white outfit and him being topless, which is how he is dressed (or undressed) in both the album cover and advertisement for the X album.














The next example is a example of synergy, but using an artist that makes the same genre music that out music video will be based on - British Hip Hop/Rap/Grime.

Chipmunk - Transition Album



This is the Digipak for the album.







These are advertisements that promote Chipmunk's song and identity.




The video includes the same colour scheme, which is black, while and metallic silver colours, As well as that, he is wearing sunglasses in the video, just like in the advertisement for the song and there are many shots where there are lights that look like car lights shining, in the video, which is also in both advertisements and the album cover. He wears the same white t shirt in the video, advertisement and album cover as well as having the same serious face expression in all of the too. The same text - the white block waiting with a black background - is on the album cover and advertisements.
